Review: American Airlines Business Class, Los Angeles-New York

American Airlines Business Class meal, LAX to JFK

I was originally booked on the evening flight from LAX to New York JFK but since I wanted to arrive earlier in New York (and luckily found availability on the same booking class) I ended up taking this earlier flight and paying the change fee of about 30USD which was okay for me.

American Airlines Flagship Lounge

After visiting the Qantas First Class Lounge and the OneWorld Business Lounge, I headed to the American Airlines Flagship Lounge and stayed there until it was time for boarding.

Boarding, Gate 46C

I left the lounge around 10:40am for the scheduled 11am boarding although it was not until 11:22am that boarding started.

Cabin

The business class cabin has a total of 20 flat bed seats in a 2-2 configuration from rows 6-10. Between the F cabin (rows 1-5) and the business class cabin are the lavatory and galley.

Seat, 6C

My seat 6C was an aisle seat and is located right behind the first class cabin. Already waiting at my seat was a Casper bedding set, Bose headphones, a Cole Haan amenity kit and a bottle of Dasani mineral water.

From the movie selection, I watched the continuation of the film Borg vs McEnroe 😉

The business class amenity kit consisted of a Cole Haan travel bag, socks, eye mask, earplugs, tissues, microfiber cleaning cloth, dental kit and an uplifting travel kit by C.O. Bigelow Apothecaries consisting of a refreshing face and hand wipe, 3ml lip balm and 8ml body lotion.

Pre-departure Beverage

Moments after settling in, we were offered some pre-departure beverage with a choice of champagne or orange juice 😍

Airshow

Airshow enroute to New York JFK

Inflight Safety Video

Around 11:37am, an announcement on the PA was made saying "Boarding completed" and seven minutes later, we began our pushback. The flight attendant also came to ask if I would be joining them for lunch, and chose the salmon for my main course and cranberry juice for my drink.

Around 12:05pm, we had our take off.

Dining

About 20 minutes after take off, hot towels were offered, and five minutes later, nuts and cranberry juice was served.

Nuts and cranberry juice

The captain came on the PA again to give us more flight info and that we expect to land in JFK around 8pm which is 15 minutes ahead of schedule. It also became a bit turbulent so meal service was paused for a few minutes.

Salad and Edamame Hummus

I was also offered some Balsamic dressing and Sourdough bread.

Sweet Chili Seared Red Salmon

The other choices were: Beef Quesadilla and Quinoa and Barley Pilaf.

The salmon was actually very good 😋 I was also offered some chocolate sundae but declined since I was already full. Drinks refill was offered throughout the meal service.

Around 2:20pm, the snacks and fruit basket was put on display.

About 1hour and 20minutes before (the actual) landing, the flight attendants offered some chocolate cookies.

The captain was back on the PA at 6:47pm to inform us that we would be landing in 30 minutes with a temperature of 52 degrees in New York. The flight attendants also came to collect the headphones at 7:08pm.

It was obvious that there was a delay since we made a "detour"as shown on the airshow. Around 7:20pm, the captain was back on the PA to give us updated flight info and that we would now be landing at 7:45pm and that we would reach our gate not later than 8pm. We actually landed at 7:52pm and reached Gate 36 at 8:07pm.

CONCLUSION

Flying back to New York, I flew on American Airlines Airbus A321 which has lie flat seats in business class. The Casper bedding was actually very nice as well as the amenity kit. I thought the meal choices were not that impressive although my salmon (the one I chose) was actually very good. Lastly, the flight attendants were really friendly and made sure we were enjoying our flight. Overall, it was a very nice flight and I would recommend flying business class with AA on this route if you get the chance 😉
