Summer Trip Flying EVA Air Business Class on 777 & Hello Kitty Jet, Singapore Airlines Suites & Cathay Pacific First Class

Last summer, I travelled to the Philippines for the 70th birthday celebration of my father. It was a very short visit since I needed to be back home for work. I've always wanted to try EVA Air's Hello Kitty Jet so I booked my flight from Stockholm to Fukuoka using Avianca Lifemiles. From Fukuoka, I flew on a budget carrier to Tokyo, and from Tokyo I flew on Singapore Airlines Suites to Singapore, and then first class to Manila using my Kris Flyer Miles. On my way back to Stockholm, I flew on Cathay Pacific First Class and Finnair Business Class using my AA Advantage Miles. This trip allowed me to test EVA Air Hello Kitty, Singapore Suites and Cathay Pacific First Class all for the first time and I couldn't be more satisfied.

Foyer

Cathay Pacific The Pier First Class Lounge foyer

This is the first Cathay Pacific lounge where the airline's signature accent is being used. Upon arrival, you will be greeted by this scent: a soothing blend of lavender, bamboo, green tea, jasmine and more making you feel relaxed.

Seating

The lounge which reopened just a month before my visit was no doubt very beautiful and modern. With the concept of making you feel like you are in an apartment rather than in a lounge, the atmosphere was very relaxed. During my entire stay, the lounge had never been busy. This is probably also due to the fact that it is located a bit far from the other first class lounge which is The Wing and not many passengers would walk their way here.

Measuring 2,061 square meters, the lounge has a maximum seating capacity of 231 guests.

The choice of materials, furniture and lighting was manifested on the natural wood, green onyx and plenty of live plants among others, giving you a homey feeling and which I personally think is one of the most essential parts of a modern lounge.

The Bureau

If you need to catch up on emails or simply want to browse the web, there are six work stations complete with iMac computers.

Pantry

For those opting to have a lighter meal or do not have much time, the pantry offers grab and go delicacies with items being changed throughout the day.

Bar

In case you want to enjoy some cocktails prepared by the barman or simply have a glass of champagne, the bar is the place for you.

Dining Room

Cathay Pacific The Pier First Class Lounge Dining Room

The dining room can handle a total of 100 guests at a time although it had never been really busy during my stay.

The menu below is from the period when Peninsula was still in charge of the dining service. It has since been changed to Plaza Premium and at present, the lounge is using Sodexo.

Day Suites

Probably one of the most talked about features of the lounge is the day suite. In the Retreat Area, there are 8 of this day suites where you can relax or even hap a nap. Why can't all first class lounge have day suites 😉

Wellbeing

For the first time, complimentary foot massage is introduced, a proof that the main focus of this lounge is your well being. I was with my nephew Harvey, during my visit in this lounge and after our foot massage, we both agreed that it was so relaxing and just perfect before a long flight back to Europe. Aside from the foot massage, neck and shoulder massages are also available on request.

CONCLUSION

Having visited a few first class lounges in the past including the Emirates First Class Lounge in Dubai, Thai Airways Royal First Lounge in Bangkok and Japan Airlines First Class Lounge in Tokyo Narita among others, I thought that the Cathay Pacific The Pier  First Class Lounge could easily make it to my top first class lounges list. The design simply gives you the relaxing feeling in the same way you would feel when you are at home. There was no doubt that all the guests inside the lounge were all enjoying their stay as I observed them. My meal from the A la Carte menu was phenomenal thanks to Cathay Pacific partnering with The Peninsula, although I've heard that the contract between the two will be terminated from next year. Still, I don't think it would affect the catering in the lounge that much. Of course, the staff in the dining room and elsewhere inside the lounge were so friendly and helpful. Lastly, the day suites were perfect for someone who needed to have a rest like me, as my flight to Frankfurt was not until after midnight. In case you will be flying out of Hongkong International Airport and have access to this lounge, don't miss it. This lounge is definitely one of the nicest first class lounges in the world!
