Getting to the Airport

I spent my layover in Doha staying at the Marriott Marquis City Center Doha for free thru the Plus Qatar Program. On my way to the airport the following day I took an Uber and passed by several interesting buildings like the ...

Doha Tower also known as the Burj Doha

Al Bidda Tower

Fanar Islamic Cultural Center

Hamad International Airport

I arrived at the airport around 4:15pm and was dropped off at the stop for business class passengers.

Premium Check-in

I've been to Doha a lot of times but it was my first time to use their Premium Check-in facility. To the left are the check-in desks for business class passengers while the one to the right is reserved for first class passengers.

There were lots of check-in desks although I was the only passenger that time.

There were also a beautiful seating area on the left side.

I was helped by a friendly Filipina agent with the check-in process and within a few moments, I was on my way to security. The flight actually had a schedule change: from 6:30pm, it was moved to 7:05pm which makes me a bit early for the lounge visit 😉

Between the check in counters and the security was a toilet pretty much like the one they have in their lounges 😉

After passing thru security and clearing immigration, I was welcomed by the airport's centerpiece, the huge bear 😍

Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge

There is no doubt that the Qatar Airways Al Mourjan Business Lounge is the most beautiful lounge in the world 😍

Boarding, Gate B10

I left the lounge around 6:10pm for the scheduled boarding time of 6:20pm. Around 6:25pm, an announcement was made that boarding would commence shortly. They started with those flying in business class and those with status.

I boarded thru the first door and turned right to where my seat is, 4A.

Cabin

The business class cabin is in a 1-2-1 configuration giving direct aisle access to everyone.

Seat, 4A

Already waiting at my seat was a pillow, the new blanket and an Armani amenity kit.

Storage to the left of my seat.

Under the left armrest is a power port.

The amenity kit consisted of an Armani pouch bag, Acqua di Gio after shave lotion, a small bottle of perfume, Rituals lipbalm, earplugs, eye masks and socks.

At 6:40pm, a flight attendant came to my seat (addressing me by my name) to take my drinks order and towel preference. I chose a glass of apple juice and a hot towel which were served shortly after together with the menu card.

Newspapers were also offered although I declined.

Around 6:49pm, the captain came on the PA to welcome us onboard and give us the usual flight information including our flight time of 6 hours.

Airshow

Airshow enroute to Bangkok

The inflight safety video was played on the screen around 6:58pm as we started our pushback.

The flight attendant came to my seat again, this time to take my meal order. I chose the miso soup (she said that's the soup of the day), salmon for appetizer and red snapper for the main course, and for my breakfast chose the Congee. For my post departure beverage, I chose a glass of cranberry juice. I also took time to ask if they had pyjamas but I was told that they only give them on night flights. Well, I guess the departure time of 7pm is still too early to be a night flight 😉

Take off was at 7:20pm.

Dining

Almonds and cranberry juice

Around 7:56pm, Abdullah the CSD from Pakistan came to my seat to introduce himself and welcome me on the flight.

My table was set, after which a chicken appetizer was served, and which was very good 😋

Then came the surprise: The miso soup was actually some sort of clear soup with vegetables. I immediately told the flight attendant about it. As the CSD was passing by, I showed him my soup and told him that it was not a miso soup. He went back to the galley and when he returned, he apologized as there had been a mistake and that the soup they have on board was noodle soup 😑

Smoked salmon rilette with rocket leaves salad

The other choice was Classic Arabic Mezzeh.

The Grilled Red Snapper Fillet with wok fried noodles was phenomenal 😋

I was offered some cheese and dessert and just chose the latter which was hazelnut and salted caramel tart.

To end the dinner service, a hot towel and a Godiva chocolate was offered.

Entertainment

From the movie selection, I watched "Phantom Thread" then went to sleep.

There was also free wifi which allowed me to check some emails.

Light Breakfast

With about an hour and half before landing in Bangkok, the flight attendant came to ask if I wanted to have my Congee served, and which I said yes. Moments later, she was back to offer some hot towels.

Congee

I was also offered some water but then opted for a glass of cranberry juice.

Onboard Bar

As usual, the onboard bar was set up before dinner and offered champagne, fruits and some snacks items. I was not sure though if the champagne bottle was ever opened 😉

Lavatory

Aside from the dental kits, shaving kits were also offered in the lavatory which I did not see on my previous flight from Helsinki.

Lavatory

Around 4:29am, the captain was back on the PA to inform us that we'd start our descent in 10 minutes and that we'd land in 45 minutes, with the current temperature in Bangkok being 25 degrees Celsius. Moments later, the CSD came to offer landing forms although I declined as I was connecting to Singapore Airlines to Singapore. Around 4:35am, hot towels were offered as well as Smint candies. We landed in Bangkok Airport at 5:10am and reached our gate 9 minutes later.

CONCLUSION

Just like my previous flight from Helsinki, this flight was also a very nice one. The food was very good and even if the miso soup I had hoped to enjoy was not there, the overall dining experience was great. The Armani amenity kit being one of my personal favorites is a big plus. Of course, the crew were all friendly and made sure we had an enjoyable flight. To all the crew on this flight, Shukran 😍
