Top Attractions in Brunei Darussalam

Me and the Sultan Omar Ali Mosque

First Visit: March 2014
My Country #41

In March 2014, I was able to visit Brunei Darussalam for the first time making it officially my 41st visited country. Mike and I stayed at the lovely Radisson Hotel Brunei Darussalam which was probably the best hotel in the country 😉 In case you are planning a trip to this beautiful kingdom, here are some of my travel tips:

Masjid Sultan Omar Ali Saiffudien Mosque: This is one of the most beautiful mosques in Asia Pacific. Definitely worth a visit 👍

Kampong Ayer or the Water Village: Take a water taxi to this village known as the "Venice of the East" and see how people live in this kind of environment.

Royal Regalia Museum: Inside you will find lots of presents to the King from different world leaders. There is no entrance fee so make sure you don't miss it.

Proboscis Monkey (Long nosed Monkey): They don't eat bananas but instead, they like leaves and fruits of the trees.

Visiting the Mangrove area: This area is close to the place where you normally find the long nosed monkeys so it is like seeing two attractions in one tour.

Istana Nurul Iman: This is the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei. It is open to the public once a year during the celebration of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Tamu Kianggeh "Open Market": Lots of fresh fruits, vegetables, dried fish, etc. can be found in this market.

Mercu Dirgahayu 60: This is a gift from the people of Brunei Darussalam to His Majesty Paduka Seti Baginda Sultan Haji on the occasion of His Majestys 60th birthday celebration.

Ceremonial Barge: A closer look at this barge is possible if you enter the mosque.

Lapau: It is a ceremonial hall where the royal ceremonies of Brunei are traditionally being held.

Tasek Waterfall: This beautiful waterfall is just walking distance from the Radisson Hotel. The park is also ideal for having picnics.

Hall of the Clouds Chinese Temple: This is one of the first Chinese temples here in Brunei.
