Trip to Kathmandu flying on Etihad A380 First Apartment and Qatar Airways A380 First Class

Last month, Mike and I traveled to Kathmandu, Nepal for the first time to meet our travel partner Helena, owner of Helena India Travels. We are sending our first group to Nepal in autumn and it was a great opportunity to meet her as well as the owners of the hotels where our group would be staying at. We were offered complimentary five nights stay by Mingma, the Nepalese owner of Chhahari Retreat and needless to say, we enjoyed every single day of our stay not only because of the nice room and excellent food in the restaurant but moreso because each one of them treated us like their own family. As for our flight, Mike and I used our remaining American Airlines Advantage miles to fly in first class from Europe to the Indian Sub continent, just before the devaluation in March, which is 80K miles return per person. Here's the full trip report of our trip to Nepal and I hope that thru this, more people would consider traveling to this wonderful country in the future!

Upon arrival, we were helped by Viktoria, a friendly receptionist who informed us that we were upgraded to an executive room. Merci, Viktoria! She also informed us that she would need a €100 deposit through my credit card. She then continued with more hotel infos like the happy hour at the Executive Lounge being open from 6-8pm and that we could take the breakfast either at the lounge or at the main restaurant which is open from 6-10am. Check in process went smoothly and moments later, we were on our way to Room 812 which is located on the highest floor.

The refreshment selection included different kinds of softdrinks, Schweppes and milk. There were also some fruits although I wished it offered more just like the other Hilton lounges we've visited in the past.

The food spread was actually very good as well as the drinks selection although I was not able to take a picture of the alcoholic beverages.

CONCLUSION

It was actually our first time to stay in this hotel and we were actually very glad that we got a room upgade, as I have Diamond status. The room was okay although the design was not as modern as we had expected it to be. The Executive Lounge refreshment selection was something they could improve on as we were used to other Hilton lounges offering more than just softdrinks and fruits like the Hilton Imperial Dubrovnik and the Hilton Budapest. On the other hand, the food offering during "happy hour" was very good. The breakfast buffet had an extensive offering with all the items you would expect from a Hilton hotel. I loved the fact that the location is very close to Terminal 3 and that we had amazing views from our room. Wifi was complimentary although it was slow specially in the evening. The pool, sauna and fitness center were a big plus although we were not able to enjoy it as we spent most of our time in the city. Overall, this is a very nice airport hotel.
