The colorful shops inside the Mutrah Souq

Last month, Mike and I travelled to Oman and enjoyed the Arabian hospitality as well as the beautiful architecture of The Royal Opera House and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque among others. Here are some of the things we visited which could be a guide to tourists who intend to visit this extraordinary land.

The Royal Opera House: The entrance fee is 2 Omani Rial which is very cheap and once you get inside, you will be amazed by just how beautiful this opera house is. Definitely a must when visiting Oman.

Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque: Inside the mosque, you can see the world's second largest chandelier (which is also very beautiful) as well as the world's second biggest carpet which is located in the main prayer hall. After your tour, you can visit the information center where you have the chance to enjoy some Omani coffee and dates, as well as some free brochures about Islam.

Old Town: During our visit in Oman, we stayed at the Ritz Carlton and they acutally have free shuttle to the old town and Muttrah Souq. This is definitely not to be missed in Oman.

Mutrah Souq: Here you will find just about anything you need and of course, there are also lots of restaurants around.

The Corniche Mutrah: After visiting the souq, you can enjoy a stroll along the corniche as you learn more about the people and the city.

Mutrah Fort: Close to the Corniche and the Mutrah Souq is this fort constructed by the Portuguese in the 16th century.

Al Alam Royal Palace: Visitors can just admire its beauty from the outside but it is still worth asking your taxi driver to make a stop for you to take some photos.

Fort Al Jalali: This fort was built by the Portuguese in the 1580s and was used as a prison.

Fort Al Mirani: An interesting fort located just beside the Al Alam Royal Palace
